Course Outline

Be Ready: To help you avoid or minimize problems, it’s essential that you plan carefully. Anticipate potential problems, and make plans to deal with them. Considerations include terrain, location, and weather.

Know Your Location: Learn as much as you can about where you’ll be riding before you arrive. If you’re headed for a remote area, purchase a topographic map and familiarize yourself with the terrain.

Prepare for Safety: Assess your physical condition, and check your equipment. Make sure you and others in your traveling group review safety rules.

Tell Others: Tell someone where and with whom you are riding and when you expect to return. Give specific directions on the route to your destination and any alternate destinations. Leave your travel plan with a family member or friend.
