Transcript for Traversing a Slope

You may encounter hills that are too steep to ascend or descend in a straight line. In that case, you may be able to drive across, or traverse, the slope at an angle. However, don’t attempt to traverse a slope with surfaces that are slippery, rough, or loose.

When traversing, be sure to:

  • Keep both feet on the footrests.
  • Lean uphill.
  • If the terrain is soft, turn your wheels slightly uphill to stay on a straight line.
  • If your ATV starts to tip, turn downhill. When traversing, if the ATV starts to tip over and you can't turn because of obstructions, jump off on the uphill side.
  • Keep your speed steady. Sudden acceleration could tip your ATV.
