Prohibited Areas of Operation

ATVs, ORMs, and side-by-sides may not be operated on:

• Gravel roads unless the roads are open to ORVs. Check with your regional Oregon Land Management office for more information.
• Limited-access highways or freeways at any time, even for crossing.
• Private lands or roads, unless with the express permission of the landowner or leaseholder.
• Land closed to riding under local, state, or federal rules or regulations.
• Paved streets or highways, except for crossing to reach a designated off-road area. When crossing a paved street or highway, an ATV, ORM, or side-by-side:
  • Must come to a complete stop prior to entering the roadway for crossing.
  • Must yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.
  • Shall begin a crossing only when it can be executed safely.
  • Must cross in the most direct manner as close to a perpendicular angle as possible.

The U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and other federal and state land managing agencies determine where ATV, ORM, and side-by-side use is permitted on their lands. The operator is responsible for knowing which routes are open to ORVs.
