Any ORV operated in Oregon is required to have a muffler and must comply with the noise limits. It is illegal to operate any ORV that produces engine noise in excess of:

  • 99 decibels (all of Oregon)
  • 97 decibels (Sand Lake)
  • 93 decibels (Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area)

ORVs may not operate on Oregon public lands if the vehicle’s muffler is stamped with “Closed Course Competition” or “Not for Road Use.”
