Maine safety education card

Do you need Maine ATV/Snowmobile education?

Maine

In Maine, youth ages 10 to under 16, must successfully complete ATV safety certification to operate on land other than their own. While snowmobile safety education is not currently mandatory in Maine, it is included in this course. *May be required in another state.

You must be at least 12 years old to take this online course.

You do not have to be a resident of Maine to take this online course.

Operator Restrictions

You must carry proof of successful completion of an approved ATV or snowmobile safety education course to legally operate an ATV or snowmobile.

Is the ATV/Snowmobile Card the same as the ATV/Snowmobile License?

The ATV/Snowmobile Safety Education Certificate is proof that you have successfully completed all of the components of an approved ATV/Snowmobile safety course and allows you to go off-roading. Because the ATV/Snowmobile education card or certificate does not expire and does not need to be renewed, it is not called the Maine ATV/Snowmobile License.

Most states and provinces that have mandatory education requirements will accept the ATV/Snowmobile Safety Education Certificate. (This is known as “reciprocity.”) If you plan to operate in another state or province, make sure you check their reciprocity laws before doing so.
