Additional Requirements for Youth Operators

To get an ATV Safety Education Card, all persons under 16 years of age must complete both:

  • An approved ATV Safety Education Course and…
  • A hands-on training course.

After completing an ATV Safety Education Course, the student will be able to print an instructional permit. This permit:

  • Will allow the student to operate an ORV under adult supervision for up to 180 days.
  • Is meant to give riders under 16 years of age time to practice and complete a hands-on training course. (For more information about hands-on training courses, go to the ATV Safety Card page of the OPRD website.)
