Course Outline

In addition to all required equipment, the IDPR recommends that OHVs operating on local jurisdictional roads have:

  • A working brake light
  • A horn that is audible for at least 200 feet
  • A mirror that shows the roadway for 200 feet behind the vehicle

When riding in sand dune areas, a brightly colored “whip flag” must be attached to the OHV. Be sure to check local regulations for specific mounting instructions and height requirements for the flag.

Whip flags can help prevent accidents when riding on sand dunes. The flag can remain visible to others even if your OHV is hidden from view.
