  2. Pay and Print Your Temporary ATV Safety Certificate

    After passing and paying the $29.50 course fee, instantly print out a Temporary ATV Safety Certificate, which is your temporary operating permit to operate legally in Pennsylvania areas open to ATV use while you wait for your permanent card to arrive.

  3. Receive Your Pennsylvania ATV Safety Certificate in the Mail

What to Expect When Taking the Course

Learning Step by Step

This official training program is developed to meet the standards for ATV rider safety education established by the state of Pennsylvania.

To help you improve your off-roading skills and to prepare you for the final exam, the course is broken down into 7 easy-to-understand units that you can complete at your own pace:

  • Unit 1: Preparing To Ride
  • Unit 2: Learning to Ride
  • Unit 3: Basic Riding Skills
  • Unit 4: Improving Your Riding
  • Unit 5: Riding Safely and Responsibly
  • Unit 6: Preparing for the Unexpected
  • Unit 7: Observing ATV Laws in Pennsylvania

Unit Quizzes

Read each unit. The units are organized to form building blocks of information. Each unit will help you understand the information in the next units.

As you progress through the course, you’ll be given the opportunity to demonstrate how well you’re understanding the offroad safety topics by taking a quiz at the end of each of the 7 units.

You’ll need to score 80% or greater on the unit quiz before moving on to the next unit. If you don’t pass a unit quiz, don’t worry. You’ll just go back and study the unit again until you’re ready to pass.

Final Exam

After completing all units, you’ll proceed directly to the online Certification Exam.

You must score 80% or greater on the final exam to pass. If you fail the final exam, there is no penalty. You can retake the exam as many times as you like until you pass.

After completing the online course, your Pennsylvania ATV Safety Certificate will arrive by mail in 7-10 business days. (You’ll use the Temporary ATV Safety Certificate until your permanent card arrives.)

How do I get my state ATV safety license?

ATV education is currently required in many states. An approved ATV safety course is required to comply with the ATV, OHV, ORV, and 4-wheeler laws and regulations in those jurisdictions.
