  1. Study and Pass the Online Course

    After passing the Offroad Safety Course, you’ll pay the $29.50 course fee and immediately print out your OHV Course Completion Certificate, which you will need for the OHV Safety and Responsibility Classroom Course.

  2. Sign Up and Attend the Required OHV Safety and Responsibility Classroom Course

    To complete the OHV education requirements for Massachusetts, you must attend the OHV Safety and Responsibility Classroom Course portion of the Offroad Safety Course. Learn more about the OHV Safety and Responsibility Classroom Course.

  3. Receive Your Massachusetts OHV Safety Education Certificate

    After successfully completing the OHV Safety and Responsibility Classroom Course, your permanent Massachusetts OHV Safety Education Certificate will be issued to you by Massachusetts Environmental Police.

What to Expect When Taking the Course

Learning Step by Step

This official training program is developed to meet the standards for OHV rider safety education established by the state of Massachusetts.

To help you improve your off-roading skills and to prepare you for the final exam, the course is broken down into 8 easy-to-understand units that you can complete at your own pace:

  • Unit 1: Preparing to Ride
  • Unit 2: Learning to Ride
  • Unit 3: Basic Riding Skills
  • Unit 4: Improving Your Riding
  • Unit 5: Riding Safely and Responsibly
  • Unit 6: Preparing for the Unexpected
  • Unit 7: Riding Off-Highway Motorcycles
  • Unit 8: Observing OHV Laws in Massachusetts

Unit Quizzes

Read each unit. The units are organized to form building blocks of information. Each unit will help you understand the information in the next units.

As you progress through the course, you’ll be given the opportunity to demonstrate how well you’re understanding the offroad safety topics by taking a quiz at the end of each of the 8 units.

You’ll need to score 80% or greater on the unit quiz before moving on to the next unit. If you don’t pass a unit quiz, don’t worry. You’ll just go back and study the unit again until you’re ready to pass.

Final Exam

After completing all units, you’ll proceed directly to the online Final Exam.

You must score 80% or greater on the final exam to pass. If you fail the final exam, there is no penalty. You can retake the exam as many times as you like until you pass.

After passing the online course, you’ll immediately print out your OHV Course Completion Certificate, which you will need for the OHV Safety and Responsibility Classroom Course.

How do I get my state OHV safety license?

OHV education is currently required in many states. An approved OHV safety course is required to comply with the ATV, OHV, ORV, and 4-wheeler laws and regulations in those jurisdictions.
