The Handbook of Iowa All-Terrain Verhicle and Off-Highway Motorcycle Regulations

This handbook is designed to introduce you to Iowa laws governing ATVs and other off-road vehicles and to provide basic information about the safe operation of these vehicles. This handbook is not intended as a substitute for the owner’s manual that came with your vehicle.

ATVs and off-highway motorcycles have been increasing in popularity over the past decade. As trails and recreation areas become more crowded, it’s more important than ever for people to operate these vehicles safely and responsibly.

This handbook is divided into three sections: It's the Law, Off-Highway Basics for all off-road vehicles, and state-specific information including trails maps, trail signs, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources contact information.
