Interacting With Non-Riders (Operators) in the Area

Many times you will share the area with non-recreational users. Safe, responsible, and ethical interactions with these groups are just as critical to keeping riding areas open. Remember, the more complaints, the higher the probability of more closures and less area for you to access.A multi-use trail

  • Grazing: Do not harass cattle, sheep, or other livestock. Do not damage gates, fences, or waterholes.
  • Mining: Keep out of mines, and stay away from mineshafts and their associated properties. All are considered private property and are extremely dangerous (see next section).
  • Landfills: Stay off landfill berms as they may collapse and also may contain hazardous wastes. They are not designed for OHV use.
  • Logging: Be alert to heavy machinery commonly associated with logging activity—you may be sharing a forest road with a log loader.
