Your Vehicle and Your Gear
- Be sure your vehicle is in good mechanical condition.
- Familiarize yourself with your vehicle by reading your owner’s manual.
- Wear protective clothing suitable for the environment.
- Use a DOT–approved helmet with goggles or a face shield to prevent injuries from twigs and debris.
- Make sure your OHV’s lighting system is working properly.
- Don’t remove the factory-installed air box, muffler, or spark arrestor.
Your Environment
- Know the terrain where you plan to operate.
- Remember that trail conditions can change due to elevation, terrain, time of year, use, and weather.
- Be aware of the weather forecast, particularly extreme heat as well as ice and snow conditions.
- Respect any people and animals you encounter.
- Never venture out alone.
- Don’t ride on high pollution advisory (HPA) days.
