Operating Regulations

  • Don’t drink and operate your OHV—DUI laws apply to off-highway operation also.
  • Ride in authorized areas only. Trespass laws apply in certain land holdings and road closures and are citable offenses.
  • Be aware of county air quality ordinances, particularly in Maricopa and Pinal counties
  • Youths under 18 years of age may not operate, ride on, or ride in an OHV unless they are wearing a properly fitted and fastened U.S. DOT–approved helmet.
  • Lights are required when operating during hours of darkness.
  • Travel is limited to authorized roads, trails, and areas that are designated open by the land management agency for motorized vehicle use.
  • Travel by motorized vehicles that causes damage to wildlife habitat, riparian areas, cultural or natural resources, or property or improvements is prohibited.
  • These activities are illegal:
    • Reckless operation
    • Vandalism
    • Harassment of wildlife from motorized vehicles
